As in IPSC shooter I was looking for normal priced light hand-guard that would accept M-LOK accessories as they are easy to find on the market. I did not find a product on the market that would fit all my requirements, so I decided to produce it by my own.
In IPSC sport you have to move fast from target to target so I need light hand-guard as possible.The only logic choice was carbon fibre. Carbon fibre is know for it’s light weight and almost unbreakable properties. I made some prototypes from round carbon tubes. Round Hand-guard had few issues that I was not satisfied with. The clamping on barrel was made with special barrel nut that was made from aluminium, if I wanted to keep low weight. Since upper receiver is already made from aluminium and aluminium to aluminium thread is not a good choice. Second issue is that carbon was mounted with eight M4 bolts. Those eight bolts was holding a lot of force on eight tiny spots. We all know how clamp system on bike seat works well with only one bolt and tighten by hand. So obvious design was to use clamp system instead of spot bolts. Biggest challenge was solved by my friend who helped me glue aluminium clamp with carbon-fiber in way that bond is much stronger than any bolt tightening. Our clamp system is using original mil-spec barrel nut. Third biggest issue was that M-LOK accessories are made for flat M-LOK base and not round tube. So I ordered special octagonal tube that was made for me so I could make best hand-guard.
